Nancy Dixon
, author of Common Knowledge and co-author of CompanyCommand: Unleashing the Power of the Army Profession, will be discussing the role of conversations in enabling knowledge sharing and organisational learning.
"Conversation is the most productive medium for learning in organizations. Study after study has shown that conversation is how tacit knowledge is most effectively conveyed, some would say the only way it can be conveyed. From my perspective, a conversation is an exchange in which both parties actively work to understand the meaning the other is attempting to convey. People know how to have conversations but what often prevents (or reduces the effectiveness) of organizational conversations is the way we configure them within the walls of the organization. That includes the organizations's interaction norms, space considerations, meeting formats, size, agendas, who is present, etc. When an organization begins to attend to how conversations are configured they have taken a big step to becoming an organization that optimizes learning." - Nancy Dixon
This event will be conducted in a conversational style, and will be useful for people wishing to facilitate or enable tacit knowledge exchange in their organisations.
As usual, refreshments will be provided from 6.30pm whilst the discussion will start at 7pm. Come early to network!
